How Have You Been Helping?

With the continued support and donations from the general public, WWF Hong Kong has achieved the followings to help save the pink dolphins in Hong Kong waters:

1996, Hong Kong's first Dolphin Sanctuary, Sha Chau and Lung Kwu Chau Marine Parks were established.
1998, The Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance was established.
2000, WWF guidelines detail safe conduct practices for commercial dolphin watch operators were adopted by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the HK SAR Government
2002, Hong Kong second Marine Mammal Protected Area, SoKo Island is gazetted.
Today, research into sustainable fisheries practices and further research is continuing.

This year, with the continued contributions from the public, we will be able to make significant headway with the EPSON "Our Dolphin" Programme by:

1.
Conducting a comprehensive joint survey with Guangdong Authorities to establish key areas for dolphins in adjacent waters;
2.
Promoting the establishment of those areas as dolphin sanctuaries and link them to the existing protected areas in adjacent Hong Kong waters;
3.
Compiling a Species Action Plan for Chinese White Dolphins in the Pearl River Estuary;
4.
Publicly launching the Action Plan in Hong Kong, and throughout the WWF global network;
5.
Lobbying governments (Hong Kong and Guangdong) to adopt the Action Plan and act on its recommendations.
