Indo-Pacific Hump-Backed Dolphin (Sousa chinensis), also locally known as the Chinese White Dolphins are one of the endangered species that lived in Hong Kong waters. In 1997, they were selected as the Mascot to celebrate the return of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China.
According to written records, the Chinese White Dolphins have been living in the Hong Kong waters since the 17th century. Although they have been living in the local waters for hundreds of years, due to serious water pollution, loss of habitats and the competition with fishermen, their number has been decreasing rapidly over the past few decades.
In order to save these endangered species for our future generations, WWF Hong Kong together with EPSON Foundation has launched the EPSON "Our Dolphin" Programme to help raise public awareness towards the Chinese White Dolphins, and at the same time, help raise funds for conducting research on these "Pink" mammals.
