Workshop on
"Restoration, creation and enhancement of wetlands in Hong Kong"
The Rotary Centennial Institute for Wetland Conservation will be co-organizing a workshop on "Restoration, creation and enhancement of wetlands in Hong Kong" with the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers on 14 Jul 2007 (Saturday) from 9:15am to 1pm.
Hong Kong has a diversity of wetland habitat types but many of these habitat types are under severe pressure from infrastructure developments due to limited land supply. In the further past, such pressure has often resulted in the loss of large wetland areas as little incentive or interest has been given to conserving wetlands or compensating the wetland lost.
However, during the past decade a range of techniques for the restoration, creation and enhancement of local wetlands has been developed to protect/restore these disappearing habitats. Through presentations and discussions in the workshop, we hope to educate engineers and the public about the importance of wetlands and relevant techniques for their conservation. Representatives from green groups, the private sector and Government have been invited to share their experience on the restoration, creation and enhancement of wetlands in Hong Kong.
For registration, please fill in the registration form and fax it to 2482 0369 or email to rciwc@wwf.org.hk before the deadline on 11th Jul 2007. For more details, please refer to the program outline or contact Ms. Eva Cheuk at 3193 7509. |
