$3600 Low Carbon Challenge

9 May 2009
Launched in September 2008 in response to the Hong Kong Government's HK$3,600 subsidy on household electricity bills, the "$3600 Low Carbon Challenge" called on Hong Kong citizens to cut home energy use and reduce their carbon footprint to help tackle the issue of climate change.

With the full support of HSBC, the initiative proved a great success, with over 3,100 Hong Kong families taking part. The five-month challenge recorded an average 23% drop in electricity use among all participating families.

Winning families recorded an average 40% drop in electricity, and an award ceremony was held in their honour in May 2009. WWF encourages all people in Hong Kong to follow their example and embark on a low carbon lifestyle.
