Ocean Summit

Over 120 people attended Hong Kong’s first-ever Ocean Summit on 8 March 2008, with a vast range of representatives from various stakeholders in Hong Kong’s marine environment on hand to share their knowledge and expertise in identifying marine conservation issues and potential solutions.

Speakers at the event included students from various local schools, water activity organizers Douglas Woodring and James Lee, Professor Yvonne Sadovy from the Department of Ecology and Biodiversity at the University of Hong Kong, and Legislative Council Member Hon. Fred Li Wah-ming.

During the event, the insightful talks depicted different areas of concern about our marine environment from numerous perspectives. With passion and enthusiasm, participants gathered ideas that involved ‘Finding Solutions for Our Sea’. These ideas were then translated into ‘Cartophors’ – metaphors drawn in the style of a cartoon.

All suggestions and solutions collected from the Ocean Summit were produced into a report by WWF that was presented to the Hong Kong Government. Click here to view the downloadable report.
