The Ocean Witness programme, sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank was a way to document the experiences of people who have witnessed the changes in Hong Kong’s marine environment. Changes such as the higher frequency and longer period of red tides, increased water pollution, modifications to the coastline, reduced sea area, disappearance of marine species and other marine issues.

By collecting these "real life" perspectives of how different people have experienced marine life in Hong Kong, WWF aimed to enhance public awareness of marine conservation, and come together to promote sustainable and healthy oceans.

In addition to the sharing stories, the campaign included an e-learning portal on the Ocean Witness mini-site, a TV programme, the ‘Ocean in a Box’ competition and an exhibition of the winning artwork.
