| Mr Gavin Cooper, Wandering Tattlers,
described his Bird of the Day at the Big Bird Race Celebration
Dinner in 1986. Mr Cooper has participated in every Race
since 1985. The first Big Bird Race, held in 1984, was to
raise funds for purchasing privately managed gei wai at
Mai Po for conservation. |

The Mai Po Wildlife Education Centre
opened by WWF International President HRH Duke of Edinburgh
in 1986. The Centre, renovated in 1996, further promotes
nature conservation among visitors with interactive display
facilities. |

Only 800 of this globally endangered species still remain

joined the Big Bird Race at Mai Po in 1985. The barren land
right to the visitor education centre is the location of
the Mai Po Education Centre. |

Sir David Wilson, former Hong Kong
Governor, officiated at the opening of Peter Scott Field
Studies Centre in 1990. Joining the ceremony were Lady Philippa
Scott, the wife of Sir Peter Scott, Michael Chalmers, WWF
Hong Kong's Buildings and Accommodation Committee Chairman
and Michael Lau, former Mai Po Reserve Manager. |
