Who wants to be a Wetland Reserve Officer (For Secondary 1 to 7)


We are very pleased to invite you to submit applications for our ESD programme provided during the 2008 - 2009 School Year.

WHO WANTS TO BE A WETLAND RESERVE OFFICERis a field-based wetland education programme specially designed for secondary students. It aims at understanding the basic concepts and importance of wetland conservation management, especially in Mai Po Nature Reserve. Students will learn various ecological surveying techniques used in ecological study. Students will also participate with hands-on experience in carrying field work in wetland.

 

Programme Content


The 4-hour programme will be conducted with an interactive approach through a wide range of activities, including interpretation, habitat and wildlife observations and identifications, simple survey works and field work. The route will cover Mai Po Visitor Centre, Bird Hide, Mai Po Education Centre and nearby Fishponds (NO Floating boardwalk and mudflat included and weather permitting). Teachers should encourage students to use the provided student worksheet during the programme in order to strengthen the learning experiences.

 

Education Approach


With an issue inquiry approach, the Programme serves as a case study for students to do Project Learning in studying environmental issues. It is conducted through a wide range of learning activities, which include role-playing, interactive games, handsˇVon experience, wildlife observation and identification, interpretation and debate. Visit route covers our bird watching hide(s), Mai Po Visitor Centre and Education Centre, Gei wai and boardwalk in the Mai Po Nature Reserve and nearby fishponds.
