Fishpond Visit
Why are the fishponds in the Mai Po Inner Deep Bay Ramsar Site ecologically important? How did the fishermen migrate and settle in the area? How have changes in Hong Kong society influence the community? What is the superiority of pond fish farming industry in Hong Kong? In this visit, the history and development of the Deep Bay fishponds will be introduced. There is also a chance that you can meet the fishermen in person.

Fish Harvesting
Whilst farmers work from dawn to dusk, fishermen do the opposite. Participants will have a chance to observe the whole process of fish harvesting as well as follow the transaction process of selling their fish in the wholesale market. It is the overnight activity.

Workshop on freshwater fish
Due to the recent public health concerns about Malachite Green, a chemical used to dye fishes, a workshop will be set up to teach participants how to distinguish fresh fishes from stale fishes, and local fishes from imported fishes. The participants could also taste fish dinner and purchase fresh local fish afterwards.

Volunteer Activity
In this Volunteer Activity, participants can become involved in the management of the fishponds to cut the grasses along the bunds and feeding the fishes. This will be a valuable chance to experience working with the fishermen.
