First phase of earthmoving in gei wai 16/17
completed
The first phase of the earthmoving works in gei wai 16/17 was
finished in mid-July and the pond has now been re-filled with water.
The aim of this work was to flatten the three large islands in the middle
of this gei wai in order to provide more space for waterbirds
to roost. In addition, students and other visitors will now find it a
more open and attractive site for studying, and appreciating the waterbirds
at Mai Po. The next phase of this earthmoving works will be carried out
from May to July 2003, to flatten the remaining two islands in the pond.
