Hong Kong Black-faced Spoonbill found breeding in South Korea

A South Korean researcher called Lee Do-han, recently carried out a survey of the Black-faced Spoonbill breeding sites from 10 - 12 June 2003 in South Korea. On the island called Seok-do, he found that one of the breeding birds had coloured rings on its legs. The coloured rings were green, yellow and blue, and had the number A26. This bird was part of a pair that was raising two chicks.

From the number and colour of the rings, we know that this bird was one of the ones which were originally caught in Hong Kong. In the winter of 2001/02, this bird was found sick at Mai Po Nature Reserve and taken to Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden where it was discovered it had avian botulism. After treatment, it was released again at Mai Po.
