WWF HONG KONG WELCOMES ERIC BOHM AS THE NEW HEAD

WWF Hong Kong is pleased to announce that Mr Eric Bohm joins as our new CEO with effect from 1 July 2004.

Eric is a Canadian and has had a long career in private business. After working in the private sector for more than 40 years, he is now ready to take up a "green" challenge at WWF Hong Kong and contribute to the Hong Kong community in which he has been living for 23 years. "Hong Kong has extensive terrestrial and marine habitats with high ecological value, which deserve better protection. I would like to strengthen our lobbying work with the government to enhance Hong Kong's conservation programmes thereby ensuring these areas are properly protected for future generations. And I'm excited about my new position and its challenges."

"We have a strong brand, a team of dedicated and professional staff with outstanding talents. We need to regain our focus on critical environment issues, and, effectively communicate with the general public to gain their understanding and support. Hence, one of my key objectives is to enhance communications with our members and donors, the players and the general public. The higher the level of understanding of the problems and their solutions, the better the chances for the successful achievement of our conservation objectives," said Bohm.

Eric also has a long tie-in with the charity groups such as the St. John's Cathedral in Hong Kong, the KELY Support Group, the St. John's Counselling Service and the Mission for Filipino Migrant Workers. "My involvement with the other charity groups enables to understand their specific challenges of how to best manage the limited resources to achieve the desired results," added Bohm.

"We have an obligation to leave a legacy of well managed and sustainable resources, especially our precious natural heritage, to our future generations. Nature is a marvelous gift which we should not abuse," remarked Bohm.

"We must continue our efforts to educate the young, because they are the key to the future. At the same time I am looking forward to assisting our counterpart in China to help increase environmental awareness and protection in the mainland."

Eric is married with one daughter studying medicine in UK. He has a wide range of interests and hobbies which include stamp collecting, photography, travel, music, ice hockey, swimming, wind surfing, as well as reading classic literature & ancient history.

Since our inception in 1981, WWF Hong Kong has worked to ensure a better environment for the present and future generations of Hong Kong through the implementation of a wide range of conservation and education programmes. WWF's mission is stop the accelerating degradation of our planet's natural environment, and to help build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
