We welcome public visits to Mai Po

A haven for tens of thousands of migratory birds during autumn and winter, and bustling with vibrant insect life and gei wai shrimp in the spring and summer, the wetlands around the Mai Po marshes and Inner Deep Bay offer visitors a chance to experience Hong Kong’s biodiversity first-hand.
As reserve manager of this designated Ramsar site and protected site of scientific interest, WWF organises Mai Po eco visits suited for individual visitors, students and teachers, and specialists. As entering the reserve normally requires a government permit, joining our eco visits is the best and simplest way to experience the beauty of this truly unique and ecologically diverse wetland location.

Guided by a nature interpreter, the tour follows a designated trail that explores the gei wai (traditional shrimp ponds), boardwalk and natural habitats of local wildlife, as well as the birdwatching hides.

By signing up for one of our eco-visits, we will take care of the necessary permits required to enter the reserve. Mai Po is accessible through several transport options. Or use our shuttle service by signing up for either our Magic of Mai Po or Flap Your Wings visit.

Teacher & Student Programmes

The vast biodiversity of the Mai Po Nature Reserve makes it a key site for students and educators to learn about our environment first-hand outside the classroom. Ranging from primary, secondary, tertiary and above, we offer several on-site educational programmes in Mai Po.
