Importance of Soko

The surrounding waters of Soko Islands are ecologically important. In 2002, the Country and Marine Parks Board, an advisory body of the Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of the HKSAR Government, recognized the importance of the area and endorsed the proposal of Marine Park designation, because of 2 main reasons:

  • The waters around Soko Islands are important habitats for the Chinese white dolphin and Finless porpoise.
  • The area is an important fisheries spawning and nursery ground.
