Bluefin tuna will soon disappear from our planet ¡V unless urgent action is taken.

The populations of bluefin tuna have declined dramatically in the last few decades:

  • Since the 1970s, populations of the northern bluefin tuna have declined by almost 90% while southern bluefin tuna have declined by about 85%.
  • Pacific bluefin tuna is being overfished, a large number of immature juveniles are caught in Japanese waters.
  • The northern bluefin breeding population will disappear by 2012 unless the current fishing frenzy stops.

These threatened giant mariners are on the brink of extinction, and you could be their saver. Speak for bluefin tuna, and let the world know that you:

  • pledge not to eat bluefin tuna, and
  • do not want any bluefin tuna to be sold in Hong Kong, and want the following(s)
(You can choose more than one restaurant.) *
to remove bluefin tuna from their menu.

* These restaurants are mentioned in the website because they promote bluefin tuna heavily and their promotion has received high public attention. This is a species-focused campaign towards sustainable seafood consumption and WWF is not attacking the business practice of any particular restaurant. We expect the list of restaurants to be constantly updated by public voting and hope to see the number of restaurants selling bluefin tuna largely reduced as a result of consumer requests.
