SHARKATHON event introduction

Up to 100 million sharks and rays are killed every year. In 2021, almost 2,000 tonnes of shark fins from 60 countries were imported into Hong Kong.

Globally, over 37% of sharks and rays are threatened with extinction. The Oceanic whitetip shark and the Scalloped hammerhead are both trade-controlled species that have been found in imported shark fins; both species are also listed as “Critically Endangered” by the IUCN and have experienced significant respective population declines of 95% and 97%. The high volume of fins traded in Hong Kong is a persistent threat to the survival of sharks in the wild. We need your help to protect sharks and rays.

ii) “Draw” a shark-shaped pattern via a GPS-based fitness application

Medals and finisher
pack delivery:
Eligible finishers will be informed by email individually and will be able to pick up their medal and finisher packs around the end of February 2023.

    The top 3 participants judged to have made the most creative shark pattern route will receive Broadway Circuit HK$200 Cinema Gift Card.
  • The Highest Fundraising Amount
    The top 3 participants that brings in the highest total donation amount will receive Broadway Circuit HK$200 Cinema Gift Card.
  • The Most Popular Participant
    The top 3 participants with the highest number of sponsors will receive Broadway Circuit HK$200 Cinema Gift Card.
  • The Highest Total Mileage
    The top 3 participants who accrues the highest total mileage will receive Broadway Circuit HK$200 Cinema Gift Card.

Participants who complete the race will receive several finisher souvenirs:

  • WWF x Din-dong finisher medal (with customised engraved text) – one medal
  • WWF x Din-dong special edition event t-shirt – one shirt
  • WWF limited edition shark caps (available to the first 300 participants)
  • Broadway Circuit HK$25 off regular-priced ticket via website/ app
  • Himalaya Salt sports candy (15 grams)
  • AYYYA hand sanitiser (5 cc）
  • Finisher e-certificate (electronic version only, participants need to download and print it themselves)
   
 

Size guide for event tee:

Delivery and pick-up arrangements:

  1. Participants can choose from two options: (A) delivery by SF Express; or (B) self-collection at a designated Run2gather pick-up point, if delivery is free of charge.
  2. If they choose to receive a delivery by SF Express, the participant is required to pay the delivery charge upon receiving the pack. If the participant chooses an SF station or EF Locker as the delivery address, they are asked to please fill in the respective location code of the station or locker.
  3. If the participant fails to pick up the medal and finisher pack within the stated pick-up period, the participant will be required to pay the SF Express courier charge. Run2gather will then send the medal and finisher pack to the delivery address provided.

 

Rules

Participants must use the apps designated by Run2gather to record their run records and upload either the record or a screen capture of the record to the Run2gather website or application.

Unfortunately, Run2gather will disqualify participants who fail to upload their records within the stated period, and will not accept records that do not meet the required distance. Please click here to view the designated or approved apps.
 
  1. Complete your race distance, either in one session or in a multi-run session and upload the run record onto Run2gather’s website or application before 1 February 2023 (23:59).
  2. Also enter the engraving text that you wish to have on the completion medal.
  3. Non-refundable, non-transferable quota, non-changeable name on medal, size of event tee and additional product(s) after successful payment.
  4. No awards will be given to participants who do not finish. As this online run event relies on self-reporting, Run2gather will check the uploaded run records regularly. If any false or non-genuine records are identified, Run2gather will exercise its discretion by disqualifying the participant and/or suspending the user account.
  5. Fundraising period will be last until 15 February 2023 (23:59).
  6. Delivery and pick up of medals, finisher packs and awards will be arranged in early March 2023.
